Dance Tutors
At Xpression Dance Studio we have a team of passionate, experienced, qualified and talented tutors. Each teacher is committed to providing a high standard of dance tuition, guiding each student as they continue to train, develop and bring their talents to their full potential.
Leearna Abernethy began dancing in 2005 and, discovering her passion, has not stopped dancing since! Becoming involved with hip hop performance crews, she has competed in competitions including the 2008 New Zealand Hip Hop Dance Championships. She has gained qualifications in hip hop dance through the Broken Beat Dance Syllabus. Leearna leads the Celebration Church dance team, which dances at the weekly Generation 412 youth service. She continues to train in hip hop, modern contemporary dance and contemporary ballet techniques. Leearna aspires to see all students receive the best possible dance experience in tuition and performance, giving them the opportunity to develop their gifts in a positive environment.
Aimee Ross has had 23 years of dance education with training in ballet, jazz, contemporary, cheerleading and hip hop. She has been teaching for 7 years from preschoolers to advanced students. Aimee gained her Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Intermediate Diploma in Jazz with honours with distinction, Advanced 1 and Grade 8 qualifications all in 2002. Joining hip hop dance crew Refined in 2006, she began to challenge her predominately classical style. Aimee believes that dance should go beyond 'feeling the music' and aims to inspire, bring joy to and and teach her students how to take their audiences on a journey. Her passion for teaching comes from a desire to see students overcome what they see as physical challenges, helping to build character and foster creativity. Aimee is an active member of the Celebration Church dance team, and also leads the 12-15 year old team.
Shea Kokaua's ambition to become a dancer was sparked attending his first class here at Xpression Dance Studio in 2007. Since then Shea has performed all across Christchurch and the Nation in Hip Hop competitions including; Bounce 2007 (2nd Place with 'DFined Soljahz'), South Island Regionals 2009 (1st Place with 'Legionnaire') and the 2009 New Zealand Hip Hop Dance Championships. All of these have only boosted his motivation to support the positive opportunities brought by the performing arts. His experience in tutoring children for holiday and after school programmes throughout the community has enabled him to perfect his teaching style - which not only allows a fun and informative lesson but endorses a safe and moral environment for students.
