Willowbank Trip

On Tuesday the 9th of September myself and 8 helpers took the 3 and 4 year olds on a trip to Willowbank as the day had started off a little bit drizzly we were hoping that we wouldn’t have to cancel.  The weather soon cleared and we were off on the bus to get to our destination of ‘Willowbank’.

The children were getting very excited now and were asking lots of questions about what animals they might see at the zoo.  We talked about this on the way and some children thought that we might see some “Giraffes and Crocs”.Arriving at Willowbank the children and parents were all very egger to see the animals so we bought some food to feed some of the animals and off we went on our big adventure.

The first animals we saw were some slippery slimy eels that were swimming around and trying to get some food from us but we didn’t stop to feed them as there were so many more to see.

We kept walking and past the deer and some geese.  The geese started following us and Karereatua was saying “Come on” to try and make the geese go faster.

Soon after this we saw a Crazy Ostrich who was very keen to come and meet all the children but was a little angry and hungry and when the children tried to feed him some pallets he pecked very fast.  He was very funny to watch and the children were all giggling at him.

The children kept on walking wondering what they might see next I heard one child sat “maybe we will see and elephant” I said “we might but we will have to wait and see”. We came to the Wallabies which looked so cute and cuddly and then we saw Jacqui feeding one from her hand.  It was so placid and was letting the children feed and pat it

We kept going past many more wonderful, beautiful animals.  The cutest animals that the children liked were the “Cheeky monkeys one off which had a baby on her back.

After the cheeky monkeys we saw a some lemurs all the children recognised the lemurs from the ‘Madagascar movie’ and Jacqui then told them that it was the same ones that dance. The children all thought that this was pretty cool. We then saw some owls, Pheasants, and some little otters. After this we saw a loud cockatoo which was saying “Hello” and then started showing off by squawking as loud as he could.

The poor chimp I said having to put up with that noise all the time. The children were now hungry and ready to stop for some lunch we did this at the farm yard where the children could have a little look around at the animals and have lunch too. Here at the farm yard we saw some big fat pigs, sheep. Llamas, chickens, Donkeys, Goats and a huge horse which is called a Clydesdale.

This horse knew what to do to get some attention and started banging his hooves to get the food that he wanted so much.  Some children were a little scared and didn’t want to feed him but that was ok.

After lunch the weather started cooling down and the children were getting tired we decied to keep walking and nearing the end off our adventure we past the “Maori Village” which had little “Whares”(houses) that were amazing.

This was such an amazing day and we all saw some incredible animals including some kiwis and a tuatara.  We all got back onto the bus where some very tired children and adults were all ready to return to pre-school to have a relaxing afternoon.
